Corpus ChristiSummer Bulletin 'Corpus Christi Solemnity' June 14th, 2009 is available for download, please note, that during the month of July, Sunday mass is celebrated only in Wilkie, each Saturday at 7.30 pm, commencing on June 20th to July 18th.The regular Sunday schedule will begin on July 26 with masses in Handel at 9 am and Wilkie at 10.30 am. Next Bulletin will be published for the Sunday of July 26th. Parish Feast Day of St. James will be celebrated on Saturday July 25 with a votive mass to St. James at 5pm, celebration follows after. The Pope said this today in a homily during the Pentecost Mass that he presided over in St. Peter's Basilica. "If we do not want Pentecost to be reduced to a mere ritual or to a suggestive commemoration," he said, in order that it can become a "real event of salvation," we must "predispose ourselves to God's gift in religious openness" through a "humble and silent listening to God's Word." Perhaps there is need, the Pontiff suggested, "for the Church to be less preoccupied with activities and more dedicated to prayer." Benedict was asked by a curious child at a Vatican audience with thousands of children on Saturday if he ever thought he would grow up to be come pontiff. He replied that he found it difficult to understand why the Lord would have picked him, once an "ingenuous, small town boy," for the post. But, says Benedict: "I accepted it, even though it seemed to me to be something that went beyond my strength." He also reminisced about being an altar boy when he was 8 or 9, and how he and his friends were, as he put it, "no saints," and sometimes even had fights in the small village in Germany where he grew up.
