Brenda Oates was an executive assistant in the Environment Department's resource stewardship branch when her crimes were uncovered in December 2004 No figures were discussed when Oates entered her plea in a Regina courtroom, but government reports have said up to $511,000 may have been misappropriated through 556 questionable transactions over five years. Court documents show Oates had a severe gambling addiction and was funnelling the money back into a casino. Between April 1999 and December 2004 the documents show she lost $609,406. Oates is to be sentenced April 24. 25.02.2008. 10:45 Should the casino give the money back? This was 680news monday morning Gormly's talk show topic. Or is it, just another case when the money stolen from the gov., pathetically environmnetal office, went back to the gov. through the casino enterprise? I am wondering if the woman, who has such a heavy gumbling adiction shouldn't file a lawsuit against casino for making her lose the job, but that would be a great case of blaming others for someone's actions. |
