    Spe Salvi...

We can go on pretending, it doesn't relate to us, or perhaps it's up to the Pope, or the bishop to combat the opinions of vilans who smash the Catholic Church for anything of the past, that it had done evil... Saved by Hope is the title of new encyclical which Pope Bendict gave to us the church. We thank him for that hope, we thank him for the reminder how important it is for us Catholics to live by the hope of salvation, and how shallow and empty are our lives when we reject God's grace, God's salvation, when we turn into ourselves, when... there would be more, but please just read something that is negative about the Saved by Hope attitude, our Holy Father shared with us:

"The Golden Compass" and two other books in the "His Dark Materials" trilogy have been banned indefinitely by the Halton Catholic District School Board despite a committee's recommendation that the titles remain on library shelves.

    Holiday Spending: Stop and think?

The Scotiabank study finds the following:

    * 78 per cent of Canadians say they will not buy their gifts in the U.S.
    * 60 per cent of Canadians are not influenced by exchange rate when purchasing gifts
    * 75 per cent of people from Manitoba and Saskatchewan had no plans to buy gifts in the U.S.
    * 68 per cent of people from Quebec had no plans to buy gifts in the U.S.
    * 65 per cent of Atlantic Canadians had no plans to buy gifts in the U.S.
    * 16 per cent of Albertans said the most likely would buy gifts in the U.S.
    shop till drop

Canadians appear to be spending more leading up to the holidays this year than last, with two separate studies suggesting the strong loonie, robust economy and lower prices are combining to put people in the mood to shop.

Scotiabank's Holiday Spending Study finds Canadians are planning to spend an average of $907 on overall holiday spending this year, up from the $822 they intended to spend last year.

A study by Visa Canada suggests the trend is even more dramatic, finding Canadians plan to spend an average of $1,061 per person this year for a total of $23 billion across the country.

    Prayer for All the Deceased
By Thy resurrection from the dead, O Christ, death no longer hath dominion over those who die in holiness. So, we beseech Thee, give rest to Thy servants in Thy sanctuary and in Abraham's bosom. Grant it to those, who from Adam until now have adored Thee with purity, to our fathers and brothers, to our kinsmen and friends, to all men who have lived by faith and passed on their road to Thee, by a thousand ways, and in all conditions, and make them worthy of the heavenly kingdom.
Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
